Southern Styria wine-growing region

The wines of Southern Styria are known for their freshness, elegance and pronounced minerality. The white wines are characterised by lively fruit aromas, fine acidity and a good structure. The Sauvignon Blanc from the region in particular has made a name for itself and is considered one of the best in Austria.

The Südsteiermark wine-growing region is located in the south of Austria, along the border with Slovenia. It is part of the larger Styria region and is one of the most important wine-growing areas in Austria, known in particular for its white wines.

The climatic conditions in southern Styria are characterised by an Illyrian climate with warm summers and mild winters with sufficient rainfall.

Potzinger Winery

The Potzinger winery in Gabersdorf has existed since 1860, making it one of the oldest family businesses in southern Styria. Stefan Potzinger has been at the helm since 1997 and pursues the goal of "producing natural and storable wines of the highest quality". In other words, wines whose potential lies above all in "minerality, elegance and freshness".

Gross Winery

In the midst of the charming hilly landscape of southern Styria, on the slopes of the Ried Nussberg, lies the Gross Winery. Martina and Johannes Gross are the sixth generation to steer the fortunes of this renowned traditional winery. They strive to express the special characteristics of the vineyard, grape variety and vintage in the best possible way.

Family Winery Tement

The Tement family winery is located both in Styria and on the Slovenian side. But there is a common idea for both parts: father Manfred Tement and his sons Armin and Stefan are concerned with clearly bringing out the differences of each site.

Sattlerhof

When it was first mentioned in a document in 1886, the current Sattlerhof in Gamlitz was a rural farm. Today, it has developed into one of the top wineries in southern Styria, with an excellent gourmet restaurant and hotel attached. The family's inner attitude towards the product and their closeness to nature still derive from a "rural" way of doing business in the best sense of the word.
