South Australia - Coonawarra, Australia, Rotwein, Cabernet Sauvignon 0.75 l
The "Cabernet Sauvignon BIN 169" is only produced at Penfolds in the best years. In Coonawarra, this legendary appellation with terra rossa, i.e. red soils with iron oxide and limestone, this was a very good year. The Cabernet Sauvignon, which was matured for 18 months in French oak with 50% new wood, is correspondingly complex and deep. The 2018 is a picture-book 169 with lots of red fruit and some cassis, tobacco, iron, cedar and vanilla. The wine initially appears silky and soft, but then you realise that this is an iron fist in a velvet glove - with great potential!
The place of origin and "spiritual home" of the Penfolds Winery is the Magill Estate, just a few minutes from Adelaide. in 1844, Christopher and Mary Jenfeld planted vine cuttings that they had taken with them on their trip to Australia.
