This Shiraz comes from old vines in the River Sea Eagle Vineyard on the Finniss River in the Fleurieu Peninsula appellation. The wine was aged for 18 months in predominantly French wood and a little American oak. The proportion of new wood was 30%. The Syrah is a wine with a deep, opaque, purple colour and a stunning aroma of dark, highly ripe berry fruits, wood spice, grilled herbs and Indian spices. Despite its maturity, the Syrah is vital, agile and full of fine acidity.

How many winemakers can you think of off the top of your head who produce wine in the northern and southern hemispheres? There are quite a few. But only a few have wineries in both regions. One of these families is the Salomon family from the Kremstal. For decades, Bertold and Getrud Salomon ran the Salomon Undhof in Kremstal, which was founded in 1792. At some point, they fell in love with the south of Australia and established the Salomon Estate on the Finniss River.
