Pedro Ximénez Solera 1910
This wine is basically a sherry, but is not officially allowed to be called such as it does not come from Jerez, but from the neighbouring Montila Morilles appellation. It is produced in the Bodegas Alvear, which was founded in 1729. The name of the wine is made up of the grape variety (Pedro Ximénez), the type of ageing (Solera) and the year in which the Solera began (1910). It is a very complex, mahogany-coloured sweet wine whose sun-dried grapes are pressed into sultanas. The fermented juice has been maturing in barrels since 1910, which are topped up again and again when something is drawn from the lower barrels. The wine is reminiscent of caramel, plums and dates and is an excellent accompaniment to blue cheese or desserts.
