Franz Hirtzberger Winery
The Hirtzberger family has been producing wines in Spitz in the Wachau for five generations. The Grand Cru from the Singerriedel, Hochrain and Honigvogl vineyards are among the best that Austrian viticulture has to offer.
Loess prepares the soil for the Veltliner parcels of one of the oldest vineyards in the Wachau, the "Kirchweg'. Here, Franz Hirtzberger vinifies a Smaragd that brings out the strengths of the indigenous Grüner Veltliner grape variety in exemplary fashion. Honeydew melon and blossom honey form the aromatic basis, complemented by mango and papaya. Salty minerality gives the Kirchweg a taut structure, the overall impression is characterised by complexity and great elegance.
