Caiarossa Rosso Toscana IGT 2019
Caiarossa means biodynamic viticulture in the south of Tuscany. And with a rather unusual mix of no fewer than seven different grape varieties, even for super Tuscans. 26% Syrah, 24% Cabernet Franc and 23% Merlot. The remaining quarter is made up of 14 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 7 % Petit Verdot, 4 % Sangiovese and 2 % Grenache. The proportions are similar to those of the southern Rhone, one might think - but the ageing in barriques reveals the first difference to the Rhone. And although the flavours are highly complex, they are also quite unique: A potpourri of red and black fruits, lots of spice - cinnamon, a hint of clove, white pepper. Plus cocoa powder and nougat and the finest round tannins. A super Tuscan like no other...
