Castello di Ama
About 20 kilometres northeast of Siena is this small settlement, which has pre-Roman roots. The Etruscans already settled here. Today's fort was built in the early 1770s.
The "Vigna L'Apparita' has been around since 1985 - and it caused a sensation right from the start. Not least because it was the first single-varietal Merlot from Tuscany. In view of its extraordinary quality, the term "St Peter of Chianti' was bandied about. The 2019 vintage also met with rave reviews from wine critics. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate is enchanted by "the magic of the site' and the "excitement and energy' that it triggers when tasted. The Wine Spectator emphasises depth, structure and enticing fruit. There is unanimous agreement on the extraordinary quality, with scores ranging from 95 points (Spectator) to 98+ (Vinous). The two plots in the vineyard cover just 3 hectares - which also makes Vigna L'Apparita a sought-after rarity worldwide.
