The wine is as extravagant as its château. The Far Eastern architectural style seems to have been transferred to the wine in all its opulence. Showing none of the seriousness and austerity of a typical St. Estèphe, the 2020 Cos d'Estournel surprises with elegant black fruit and notes of tobacco and graphite with its hedonistic interpretation of the appellation. It may have overshot the mark a little around 10 years ago, but now it once again shows all the finesse and elegance that made the estate so famous and is more reminiscent of its famous neighbour Lafite Rothschild (the border with Pauillac runs here). And all this with a dash of Cos-Esprit.
