Clemens Busch Winery
In Pünderich, where the Moselle pushes through a narrow bend and the slopes drop steeply to the river, is the Clemens Busch vineyard, run by its namesake, partner Rita and son Johannes.
It took five harvests over several weeks to pick this Trockenbeerenauslese in 2011, reports Clemens Busch. Hail followed by rain in September forced strict selection, and must weights between a whopping 209? and 320? degrees Oechsle were finally harvested. And even if Clemens Busch's fame is otherwise mainly based on the dry Grosses Gewächse from Marienburg, with this TBA he has created a monolith that defies conventional wine descriptions in its power. Ultra-concentrated and oily-dense, with a baroque, opulent honey sweetness and - in addition to the stone fruit flavours typical of Riesling - a fascinating ginger note. Stephan Reinhardt awarded 99 points in WINE ADVOCATE and attested that the wine will mature until 2090.
