Castello di Ama
About 20 kilometres northeast of Siena is this small settlement, which has pre-Roman roots. The Etruscans already settled here. Today's fort was built in the early 1770s.
The 2020 "Chianti Classico Gran Selezione' is a fantastic wine from the single vineyard Vigneto Bellavista. This Chianti Classico has been made from Sangiovese and a little Malvasia Nera since 1978. The vineyard is located on the slopes of the Bellavista valley at an altitude of 427 to 525 metres with pebble, clay and chalk soils. The best and oldest vines are used. The 2020 vintage has produced a dark and masculine wine. It has a classic appearance with a clear acidity structure and great elegance. The aroma is reminiscent of black cherries, plums and dried wild strawberries, graphite and stone, tobacco and nuts with notes of mint and juniper. On the palate, the wine is still very young, showing fullness and intensity, powerful tannins and a deep minerality through to the long finish. The wine can still mature for decades.
