Winery Gut Hermannsberg Rotenberg GG Riesling 2018
The Altenbamberger Rotenberg is characterised by its name: Its geology is characterised by Rotliegende, a type of rock containing a high iron content of haematite. This also determines the fine, salty minerality of the extremely steep site in a side valley of the Nahe. Slate clay and quartz porphyry round off the soil mix there. The 2018 vintage's Grand Cru is captivating with its complex and multi-layered flavours. There is a lot of fruit, exotic flavours such as grapefruit, pineapple and papaya, but also hints of red fruit such as cassis. These are joined by herbs and floral tones and a fine smokiness that lends tension. All of this is incredibly balanced and harmoniously interwoven - a great charmer at the level of a VDP.GG.
