Castello di Ama
About 20 kilometres northeast of Siena is this small settlement, which has pre-Roman roots. The Etruscans already settled here. Today's fort was built in the early 1770s.
The "San Lorenzo' from Castello di Ama is a blend of the four large single vineyards. Grapes from La Bellavista and Casuccia, San Lorenzo and Montebuoni from 80% Sangiovese are combined with 20% Malvasia Nera and Merlot to create an incredibly seductive and complex whole, without losing the enormous finesse and elegance that characterise this blend. The 2018 vintage is also characterised by these top terroirs, as well as 18 months of ageing in French barriques. Between 15 and 20 per cent new barrels leave a clear toasted, vanilla and tannin stamp without masking the enormously seductive cherry fruitiness of the wine, which is surrounded by the scent of roses and spices. Chianti Classico at its best!
