The 2016 Niederberger Helden from Schloss Lieser is perfect proof of the theory that classic Riesling Auslese wines in particular need a certain amount of time to mature in the bottle before they reveal their full potential. This wine has only just reached the zenith of its maturation horizon - but will certainly remain there for a few more years. In the blue slate-dominated vineyard, from which Thomas Haag also presses a fine Großes Gewächs, an Auslese grows year after year that could not be more classic. Dense and full of finesse, with a perfect acidity/sweetness balance and exciting fruit exoticism on the nose and palate. Perfectly matured, spontaneously fermented Schiefer excellence.
