The Forster Pechstein is one of the largest Riesling vineyards in Germany. A double-digit number of estates share the 20 hectares of mottled sandstone traversed by black basalt gravel. The Dr Bürklin-Wolf winery is one of the top producers every year. The volcanic basalt is not only responsible for the name, but also for an irrepressibly intense minerality. The fruit only plays second fiddle, in the foreground is a deep, vibrating tension that is fuelled by stony, flinty and reductive notes paired with a remarkable salinity. This is Riesling in its most serious form - with development potential for decades. The 2022 received 98 points from Stephan Reinhardt and even 100 from James Suckling.
