Franz Hirtzberger Winery
The Hirtzberger family has been producing wines in Spitz in the Wachau for five generations. The Grand Cru from the Singerriedel, Hochrain and Honigvogl vineyards are among the best that Austrian viticulture has to offer.
Ried Singerriedel is considered one of the best vineyards in Austria, and the wine produced there is the second absolute top wine in Franz Hirtzberger's portfolio alongside the "Honivogl'. Riesling plays first fiddle here - and Hirtzberger's version from the up to 70% steep, thinly sand-covered paragneiss slopes only 200 metres from the Danube can justifiably be counted among the best wines made from this grape variety in the Wachau. Delicate peach fruit, fully ripe yellow apples, pineapple and citric tones, all subtly surrounded by meadow herbs - the "Singerriedel' offers an impressively long-lasting and intense firework of flavours of the highest elegance. One of the great Rieslings from the Wachau.
