Penfolds Yattarna Chardonnay 2023
First produced in 1995, Yattarna has long been considered one of Australia's finest Chardonnays. In Penfolds circles, it is known as Bin 144. The grapes come from Tumbarumba, the Adelaide Hills and Tasmania; the wine was aged for eight months in French oak, 60% of which was new. The colour shows straw-yellow reflections, the oak is initially distinct but well integrated. Spice, stone fruit, citrus, peach, with a hint of oyster shell and lime characterise the nose. On the palate, lemon and peach are at the forefront, with the oak receding into the background. Focused, long and already showing the first signs of growing complexity. Ten to 15 years of ageing potential.
