An English Christmas Dinner

Christmas menu suggestion with wine accompaniment / by Christoph Raffelt

Arte is currently showing "A Festive Day", based on the novel by Graham Swift. Well, the festive season turns out differently than expected, but we don't want to give anything away. In any case, this very sensual film, which has an excellent cast including Odessa Young, Olivia Colman, Colin Firth and Josh O'Connor, is set primarily in the great days of the English landed gentry in the 1920s.

A lot of classic dishes also come from this period, which English authors such as Nigel Slater (wonderful "The Winter Diary" with recipes and stories) or the chef Stephen Harris (just published: The Sportsman at Home - Flavoursome Recipes for Nostalgic Eating) preserve.

The British, especially the English, are great Christmas menu connoisseurs. This is not only due to their famous Christmas pudding. Reason enough to suggest an English Christmas menu today. With matching wines, of course!
