Behind the name Bodegas La Horra is none other than the well-known duo Mario Rotlant and Carmen Daurella, who founded the now legendary Bodegas RODA in Rioja in 1991.
With Bodegas La Horra Corimbo, they have proven that they can also produce outstanding wines in the home of Pingus, Pesquera and Vega Sicilia. In 2007, they met the winegrowers Pedro and Pablo Balbas in La Horra. They brought 40 hectares of old vines from the heart of the DO Ribera del Duero into the joint venture. Since 2008, Bodegas La Horra has been vinifying two wines on 50 hectares. With Corimbo and Corimbo I, Mario Rotlant and Carmen Daurella are about to repeat the success of RODA.
It is important to them that the wines follow three basic principles: Avoiding excessive use of wood, avoiding over-ripening while maintaining freshness, and carrying out a careful extraction that is more like an infusion to promote the finesse of the tannin. The vineyard is cultivated according to the guidelines of organic viticulture. Respect for the environment also means that the bodegas have been awarded the „Sustainable Wineries for Climate Protection“ certification. This was developed by the Spanish Wine Federation (FEV) and launched in 2015 as the first and only specific certification for wineries in terms of environmental sustainability. With this in mind, a completely new, largely climate-neutral winery is now being built and integrated into the landscape. All of this, of course, also benefits the two wines, which have become even finer and more elegant over the years.
