Since the end of the 19th century, the history of Château de Calavon has also been that of the Audibert family, who have now owned the estate for five generations. However, the winery can look back on an even older history.
Château de Calavon is located half an hour north-west of Aix-en-Provence in the village of Lambesc. It is undoubtedly the oldest wine estate in the region and was already known for its wines under the Princes of Orange in the Middle Ages. It has belonged to the Audiberts for around 150 years, who have only added to the estate's fame.

Today, the Château de Calavon vineyard covers around 100 hectares of vines and 15 hectares of olive trees and has been certified organic since 2013. The vineyards cover two sites in the Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence and IGP Méditerranée appellations, which means a variety of terroirs. The „Le Château“ site comprises the historic plots around the château, which are protected by a pine forest and surrounded by wild scrubland. The south-east facing terraces are characterised by poor soils with limestone in the subsoil and clay in the top layer. In the „La Crémade“ vineyard, the soils are deeper and denser and also planted with younger vines. The winery cultivates a total of 15 different grape varieties. These include the red varieties Syrah, Grenache, Carignan, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cinsault, Mourvèdre, Counoise, Caladoc and Merlot as well as the white varieties Rolle (Vermentino), Clairette, Sémillon, Bourboulenc, Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Grenache Blanc.
Arnold Mas, the estate's cellar master, produces around 60% of the wines as red wines, which is quite a high percentage for the region. However, the „Château de Calavon Rouge“ has been the flagship of the estate for more than a century. At the same time, of course, excellent rosé wines are produced here, which are considered synonymous with the wines of Provence.
