The winery was first mentioned in 1589 as part of a hospice and is actually located within sight of the church of Pomerol. Even if it is no longer the church after which the estate was originally named. it was acquired by the Castéja family, the owners of the Borie-Manoux trading house, in 1973. They had been selling the wines since the 1960s and when the then owner family Landard wanted to sell, they seized the opportunity.
The Domaine de L'Eglise, which is located in the so-called "Petite République Villageoise" of Pomerol, covers seven hectares, which are used exclusively for the "Grand Vin". The vineyard is planted with 95% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc and is located on one of Pomerol's classic terroirs with gravel and clay.

The wine is produced by the same team that vinifies the wines of Château Trotte-Vieille. After the harvest, the grapes are pressed and then fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks for around four weeks. The wine is then drawn off and a small amount of pressed wine is produced. After malolactic fermentation, it matures for 18 months in classic barriques with a new wood content of 60%. Today, the wines of Domaine de L'Eglise can justifiably be described as „hidden gems“. Like those from Trotte-Vieille, they are not among the most hedonistic wines in the appellation and should be left to mature a little longer. But then they develop into extremely deep, complex and serious Bordeaux.
