Wines from Château Labégorce
The Médoc Cháteau Labégorce is located in Margaux and thus belongs to the appellation of the same name. Adjacent to the Châteaux Margaux and Lascombes, the 250-hectare estate is located in an extremely prominent neighbourhood. Even contemporaries of the 19th century (Édouard Féret 1868) wrote of "one of the most beautiful and best situated (châteaux) in the commune of Margaux."
Since purchasing the estate in 1989, the Perrodo family has restored its former splendour in terms of architecture and, of course, viticulture. in 2006, the Perrodos also acquired the Troisième Grand Cru Classé Château Marquis d'Alesme.
The Labégorce vineyards cover an area of 70 hectares and have predominantly sandy-pebbly, but also sandy-muddy soils. They are planted with the classic Margaux varieties and proportions: 50 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 45 % Merlot, 3 % Cabernet Franc, 2 % Petit Verdot.
The wines mature for between 12 and 14 months in barriques, with 40% to 50% of the barrels being unused. After barrel ageing, up to 140,000 bottles are sold.
