It is still rare in the Bordeaux world for a team of women to run a château. But at the "3ième Grand Cru Classé" Marquis d'Alesme Becker, this is the case and the wines from Margaux are absolutely seductive.

However, the reason why it is mainly women who are at work here is less attractive. This is because the father of current owner Nathalie Perrodo, Hubert, died when she was just 24 years old. Since then, she has run the winery, which was founded in 1585, together with Marjolaine Maurice de Coninck. The almost 40-year-old Nathalie Perrodo not only runs the estate at 3ième cru level, she has also turned it into an open house that is much more welcoming than most other Bordeaux châteaux. But that's not all.

Since Nathalie took over, five of the 15 hectares have been replanted and the vineyard has been completely converted to organic farming. The cellar was renovated in 2015 and half of the wines are matured in conical oak fermenters, the other half in classic concrete cuves. The proportion of new wood in the barrique ageing is 50 to 60%. The vineyards are not all in one piece at the château, but are divided into three terroirs, which makes winemaking more flexible depending on the vintage. The 15 hectares are planted with 63% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot as well as Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. The result is an open-hearted, elegant and balanced Margaux.
