Château Vray Croix de Gay is a historic wine estate in the heart of Pomerol. The name comes from a wayside cross that served as a guide for pilgrims on the Way of St James towards Santiago de Compostela. The château has its vineyards on what is probably the best terroir in Pomerol, on the so-called plateau in the direct neighbourhood of Pétrus and Trotanoy.
Just over three hectares are planted with around 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. Vray Croix de Gay produces a typically powerful Pomerol, but with a very hedonistic approach. Dark berry fruit, wrapped in silky tannins and with plenty of refreshing florality characterise the style of the wine.
The vineyards have been cultivated biodynamically since 2015. For some time now, the division into microplots and the associated planting have also led to much more precise work in the vineyard and subsequent fermentation. This method has significantly improved the quality even further. For a few years now, the vineyard has belonged to the same owner as the Grand Cru Classé vineyards Château Calon Ségur from St. Estèphe, Château Rauzan Gassies from Margaux and Croizet Bages from Pauillac. The very charming second wine is called „L'Enchanteur Vray Croix de Gay“.
