When the going gets tough, Sophie Fourcase-Reiffers' beautiful 1.36-hectare vineyard produces 5,000 bottles of one of the most sensual wines on the Right Bank.
Clos Saint-Martin is a gem that is rarely found. The house is the former rectory of the neighbouring Saint-Martin à Mazerat church and, with its "garden", as Sophie Fourcase-Reiffers calls her walled vineyard, is located in the immediate vicinity of Château Canon and Beauséjour. "When my children tease me that I watch over the wine like a mother hen, they're right in a way, but I'm also very aware of how much I owe to nature."

The vineyard is worked by horse and by hand. The small number of grapes, whose vines are rooted in the local clay-limestone plateau, are of course harvested by hand. 80% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon are cultivated and vinified without the use of chemicals. The result is a rare, silky and highly sensual wine that does full justice to the "sense of place".
