With 48 hectares of prime vineyards, more than 200 years of tradition, a pioneering cellar and its own cooperage, Maison Louis Latour has long been one of the best names in Burgundy.
The Latour family has been based on the Côte de Beaune since at least 1731. They came to Aloxe in 1768 and acquired parcels of several vineyards there and on the hill of Corton. The source of income at that time, however, was its own barrel cooperage. in 1797, the Maison Louis Latour was also founded by Louis of the same name. In the 19th century, things went so well that the Thurn und Taxis family, the Bavarian court, the King of Württemberg, Ferdinand of Saxe-Coburg, later King of Bulgaria, Prince Radziwill and others were supplied. In 1867, Louis II was able to acquire the Lamarosse Père & Fils wine trading business in Beaune at 18 Rue des Tonneliers, which is still home to the House of Louis Latour today.
in 1890, the family acquired the Château de Corton Grancey, its cooperage and 17 hectares of vineyards from the Comte de Grancey. They expanded it so that the château became the most modern wine estate in France at the time. It is a winery building that extends over five floors and applied principles that are still state of the art today: Grapes, musts and wines were and are moved exclusively by gravity.

The winery is very aware of tradition, but is also modern in other respects when you look at its portfolio, as it now has Domaines Beaujolais, in the Var and Ardeche as well as in Chablis, in addition to Burgundy. The white grapes are harvested as ripe as possible, then destemmed and fermented in tanks without clarification. They are then fermented in barrels and matured without batonnage. The red grapes are destemmed and destemmed before the rather short fermentation. Only a few new barrels are used for the red wines, for the cru white wines they are 100% new. The barrels all come from the estate's own tonnellerie made from wood that has been air-dried for 30 to 36 months and then toasted for a long time, but only lightly.
The style of the house is characterised above all by great elegance and interprets the king grape varieties Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in a very hedonistic way. The wines also have great ageing potential.
The domaine, which is now run by the eleventh generation of the family, Florent Latour, has 48 hectares of outstanding vineyards. These mainly include Grand Cru sites such as Chambertin, Romanée St Vivent, Corton, Corton Clos du Roi, Montrachet, Chevalier Montrachet, , Batard Montrachet and Corton Charlemagne.
