This is the story of two brothers and two sisters who became a married couple and now run two wineries and a joint project. Johannes and Michael come from the famous Gross winery in southern Styria, which Johannes took over together with his wife Martina. Her sister Maria in turn married Michael Gross and together they fell in love with Gorca more than ten years ago.

Gorca is located in Štajerska Slovenija in Slovenia, around 60 kilometres from Gross' home in Ratsch on the Wine Route. So the two founded Vino Gross and acquired their first vineyard in 2005, since when the business has gradually expanded to 18 hectares. In 2011, the newly renovated winery, including the press house and vaulted cellar high above Gorca, was put into operation.

The vineyards are located in the Slovenian wine-growing region of Štajerska Slovenija, specifically in the Haloze area near the town of Ptuj. Some of the vineyards are extremely steep and reach up to almost 500 metres. The organically cultivated vines are mainly rooted in calcareous marl soil with humus-rich but shallow topsoil.

The varieties grown on these steep slopes include Sauvignon Blanc, Furmint, Traminer, Welschriesling and Rheinriesling. Maria and Michael Gross work with minimal invasiveness in the cellar, where the wines usually ferment spontaneously after whole-cluster pressing and mature in traditional large wooden barrels before being bottled without fining or filtration and with minimal sulphur.
