Knoll Winery

"The defining winery of the Wachau"

The Emmerich Knoll winery is one of the traditional wineries of the Austrian Wachau. It has probably produced more cult wines than almost any other winery in the appellation. The vinotheque bottlings in particular are legendary.

Today, the winery based in Dürstein cultivates 19.5 hectares of its own vineyards as well as five hectares from contract winegrowers for the simple wines. Around a third of the vineyards are terraced vineyards with well-known sites such as Kreutles, Trum, Loibenberg and Schütt for Grüner Veltliner and Loibenberg, Kellerberg, Pfaffenberg and Schütt for Riesling. The Prädikats Federspiel (Kabinett dry), Steinfeder (Spätlese dry) and Smaragd (Auslese dry) are produced here. Above this is the Vinothekenfüllung, which is only produced in the best and ripest years. In addition to the two white flagship varieties, there is also Gelber Muskateller, Chardonnay, Traminer and Blauburgunder. Emmerich Knoll senior and junior are responsible for the full-bodied, deep wines, which are traditionally matured in large vats. Their wines are known for their ability to age for decades.
