"Elegance over power."

Sebastian and Nici Beaumont

In the 18th century, Compagnes Drift Farm in Bot River, around 80 kilometres south-east of Cape Town, was an outpost of the Dutch East India Company. In the 1970s, Jayne and Raoul Beaumont took over the farm, planted vines and began producing wines under the Compagnes Drift label.

a new era began in 2004. Son Sebastian, born in 1974 and raised among the vines, took over the management of the family business and from then on went his own way: with a new philosophy, new methods, a new portfolio - and with the name "Beaumont Family Wines".

Driven by the conviction that "great wines are created in the vineyard", Sebastian relies on minimal intervention and in some cases centuries-old methods in the cellar, spontaneous fermentation and open stone fermentation tanks. The principle of "elegance over power" is evident in all Beaumont wines. The focus is on Chenin Blanc. The Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay varieties, which are just as typical for South Africa, have been consistently removed from the programme. In addition to Chenin Blanc, there are Syrah, Mourvèdre and Pinotage.

Every year, Sebastian invites young winegrowers and sommeliers from all over the world to experience a grape harvest in Bot River. We have also been closely associated with the winery for a long time.
