The Sichel family

Founded in the 15th century, Château Angludet is one of the oldest wine estates in the Médoc and has developed into a true jewel in Margaux under the management of the Sichel family of wine merchants - even if the estate is not a Grand Crus.

Some wine estates in Bordeaux were perhaps not at the height of their potential when the Grand Crus classification was established in 1855. Château d'Angludet, whose core dates back to the 15th century and whose vineyard holdings have hardly changed for 250 years, is probably one of them. There is no other explanation for the fact that it was not included despite the excellent location of its vineyards on the third terrace, around three kilometres from the banks of the Gironde. It takes good winegrowers and, of course, an owner who invests time, energy and money in such a vineyard. The Sichels, wine merchants in Bordeaux for seven generations, acquired the estate in 1961 and brought it back to life under the management of Peter Sichel.

The style of Margaux is unmistakable and always easy to recognise. It is based on a selection of grape varieties in which, in addition to Cabernet Sauvignon (46%) and Merlot (41%), Petit Verdot (13%) plays a particularly important role. The individual batches are fermented in classic cement fermenters and then matured for a year in barriques with 35% new wood. In addition to the ripe cassis and plum fruit, notes of mocha, graphite, spices and smoke as well as the fleshy overall impression on the palate are typical.
