The Vayron family
In the heart of the prestigious Pomerol appellation, the vineyards of Château Bourgneuf extend over nine hectares. Bourgneuf has been owned by the Vayron family since 1840, who have produced one of Pomerol's best wines in recent years.
Xavier and Dominique Vayron had the privilege of inheriting a small jewel in the heart of Pomerol in the 1970s with Château Bourgneuf, and they have used this privilege to produce a wine that offers a perfect price-pleasure ratio in this not exactly inexpensive region. Frédérique Vayron, their daughter who initially studied philosophy, has been on board since 2008, and with her the quality has improved once again. She produces deep, dark fruity Pomerols with a very successful use of wood and an associated tannin structure that is very appealing.
The vineyard is located in the immediate vicinity of Château Trotanoy and has three terroirs with dense clay and loam as well as sandy loam and gravelly soils. The HVE-certified vineyards comprise 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. The wine is fermented in cement and then matures for around 14 months in wood, of which around a third is renewed each year.
