Château Cos d'Estournel Winery

"It had to be Cos, and only Cos."

Michel Reybier

On the heights of Saint-Estèphe stand the majestic pagodas of Cos d'Estournel, the legacy of Louis-Gaspard Lacoste de Maniban, Marquis d'Estournel, the "Maharajah of Saint-Estèphe". This ambitious man travelled the world to extol the virtues of his wine and win over new customers.

The vineyard, which Louis-Gaspard d'Estournel inherited in 1791 on the siliceous hills of Cos, has been shaped over the years by this visionary and still enables the cultivation of a terroir of remarkable complexity and richness today.

Since 2000, Cos d'Estournel, second vineyard of 1855, has been owned by Michel Reybier. In an endeavour to follow the founder's avant-garde vision and take on a decisive technical pioneering role, he built the first purely gravity-fed wine cellar in Bordeaux in 2008.

This system supports the winery's quest for quality and enables the grapes to be treated with complete respect. In this way, the great terroir of Cos d'Estournel has been further enhanced, as demonstrated by the Grand Vin Cos d'Estournel and the Pagodes de Cos.
