Château Larcis Ducasse Winery

"Wines of incredible emotional power."

Nicolas Thienpont

Château Larcis Ducasse is located not far from the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Saint-Émilion on the Saint-Émilion plateau. The vineyard, which has been owned by the Gratiot family for more than a hundred years, is now the second-highest level in the Saint-Émilion red wine hierarchy as a Premier Grand Cru Classé B.

This is not least thanks to the director Nicolas Thienpont and his advisor Stéphane Derenoncourt, the technical director David Suire and Julien Lanvanu. They have led the eleven-hectare vineyard to the top.

The vineyard, which is dominated by Merlot, lies on three different geological layers. These include the mighty limestone slab of the Plateau de Saint-Émilion, the loamy-clayey upper slope of the Grande Côte and the lower slope of the Pied de Côte, which consists of molasses with ferruginous sand. Special clones and rootstocks were selected for each area in order to optimise the quality of the vineyard, which has been cultivated organically and increasingly biodynamically since 2002.

In the wine cellars, which were built in 1898 according to the gentle principle of gravity, there is never over-extraction and never too much wood. Larcis Ducasse stands for balanced wines with intense fruit and finesse.
