The estate may have an unusual owner in the form of Foyer de Charité, but the Moueixes ensure that excellent wine is produced at Latour à Pomerol.
This pretty vineyard with its 7.9 hectares, which takes its name from the small tower on the building, had a famous owner 100 years ago. It was none other than Madame Marie-Louise Loubat, who also ran Château Pétrus at the time and later acquired it. in 1949, Jean-Pierre Moueix took over the distribution of the wines from both estates. After Loubat's death, one third of Pétrus initially passed to Moueix, later two thirds, while the other part remained with Loubat's heiress, her niece Lily Lacoste. This person was a believer and bequeathed Latour à Pomerol, where she was born in 1906, in her will of 2001 to the Catholic religious community Foyer de Charité de Châteauneuf-de-Galaure, which is still the owner today. The Moueix family have leased the vineyard since 1962.
The result is a single-varietal Merlot, two-thirds of whose 30-year-old vines are rooted in a deep gravel soil with clay subsoil near the church of Pomerol and another third in a mixture of loam, clay and silt directly at the vineyard. The wine is characterised by a perfect balance between elegance, power and smoothness. It is rich with distinctive but fine tannins and remarkable nobility.
