Château Malescot Saint-Exupéry

"For three generations, we have contributed to leaving our humble mark."

Jean-Luc Zuger

When it comes to high-quality viticulture today, among many other details, the development of individual parcels that only later come together to form a whole is high on the agenda. At Malescot Saint-Exupéry, the 25 hectares were divided into 111 individual plots as early as 1853. Count Jean-Baptiste de Saint-Exupéry, the great-grandfather of the French aviator and writer Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, was responsible for this at the time. He acquired the estate from the Malescot family in 1827.

In 1855, the Margaux estate was rated 3ème Grand Cru Classé. The wines of the estate, which today comprises 30 hectares of Grand Cru including 6.5 hectares of Bordeaux Supérieur, were not always so highly regarded. But at the latest since Edmond Ritz and his son-in-law Paul Zuger took over the estate with his son Roger in 1955, things improved.

Dr Tony Jordan

Since Jean-Luc Zuger took over in 1994 and Michel Rolland became an advisor, they have found a style that reflects the modern Margaux.

The vineyards are planted with 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot. The two to ten metre thick gravel layer of the fourth terrace forms a perfect natural drainage. Around 70% of production is from the Grand Cru Classé and 30% from La Dame de Malescot.
