Buy wines from Château Olivier
Château Olivier is located just eleven kilometres from Bordeaux, in the Graves region, in the Pessac-Léognan appellation. Its history dates back to the Middle Ages. Around 1870, it was acquired by the then Bordeaux mayor Alexandre de Bethmann. The estate is still in the hands of his descendants today.
In recent years, the business has been reorganised. Under the aegis of agronomist and winemaker Laurent Lebrun, the terroir has been geologically analysed in detail. New plantings have restored the vineyard to its 18th century layout.
The soils are equally suitable for the production of red wines (75%) and white wines (25%). Six grape varieties are cultivated on 55 hectares of compact gravel soil with a subsoil of clay and limestone: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon and Muscadelle. The average age of the red wine vines is 20 years, that of the white wine plants is 30 years.
The red wine cuvée consists of roughly equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, with some Petit Verdot added. It epitomises the archetypal Bordeaux and becomes fuller, softer and more velvety with maturity, often with a floral bouquet.
Graves white wines are among the best dry white wines in Bordeaux. They are complex and aromatic. Château Olivier balances the fruit and vibrancy of Sauvignon Blanc with the body and ageing potential of Sémillon. Muscadelle provides fragrant sophistication.
