Buy wines from Château Pavie-Macquin
The winery is owned by the third generation of the Corre-Macquin family, who recruited the duo Nicolas Thienpont and Stéphane Derenoncourt as winery director and consultant back in 1994. Today, Cyrille Thienpont is increasingly taking over his father's duties. Their names have long been synonymous with excellence.
And this is not least thanks to the Corres family, as it was in the Pavie-Macquin vineyards that Stéphane Derenoncourt gained his experience with biodynamics and natural viticulture. The wine, which has been labelled Premier Grand Cru Classé B since 2006, is one of the best that Saint-Émilion has to offer with its power, concentration, fruit and elegance.
With its 15.2 hectares of vines, the Château Pavie-Macquin vineyard is located entirely on the limestone plateau of Saint-Émilion, in the illustrious neighbourhood of Château Troplong Mondot and Château Pavie-Decesse. But even on this manageable area, there are different terroirs from a topsoil of rather shallow loam to one with a thick layer of clay. The vineyard is planted 80 % with Merlot, 18 % with Cabernet Sauvignon and 2 % with Cabernet Franc.
