Jean-Marc Brocard
Domaine Jean-Marc Brocard manages to bring the character of Chablis, the limestone-dominated soils of northern Burgundy, to the glass in this quality like hardly any other winery. Petit Chablis, Chablis, Chablis Premier Cru, Chablis Grand Cru - the radiant, clear wines are exported to almost 50 countries.
born into a farming family in Chaudenay-le-Château in 1946, Jean-Marc Brocard initially turned his back on agriculture and opted for a career in engineering. It was only when he married his wife, who came from a family of winegrowers, that he became interested in wine and embarked on a real career as a winemaker. their son Julien was born in 1973 and Jean-Marc planted his first vines in Préhy, where he set up his winery a few years later.
Today, it is primarily Julien who runs the business and is consistently focussing on sustainability. The domain is one of the pioneers of sustainable management. "If we don't do it, we can't compete with those who do," is his credo. in 1997, 11 hectares were initially cultivated biodynamically in order to study and better understand the new methods. Today, 60 hectares of vines are certified organic and a further 40 biodynamic.
Today, the fine Chardonnays are produced on the Kimmerdige limestone of former sea beds, their style precisely translating the characteristics of the soil. Freshness and tension result from the natural acidity and minerality of the soil. This is complemented by structure and a long finish.
