For a long time, the Graf Neipperg winery in Schwaigern near Heilbronn has been one of the best in Württemberg and Germany.
The first documented mention of a vineyard in today's Württemberg region was in 766 with Böckingen, which is barely two kilometres away from the Schlösschen and the village. The Schlösschen stands on the foundations of a medieval hilltop castle. It has been in the possession of the Neippergs since the 15th century.
The vineyards between Schwaig and Neipperg cover a total of 30 hectares. They are called, for example, Neipperger Schloßberg, Schwaigerner Ruthe and Klingenberger Schloßberg. The first two are mainly characterised by steep slopes and Keuper, the Klingenberger Schloßberg by loess on shell limestone.
Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Traminer Pinot Noir, Lemberger and Trollinger are fermented, matured and stored in the ideally tempered vaulted cellar in the former castle moat.
