Burgundy is considered a classic wine-growing region, but there are many experiments, fashions and styles. Louis Jadot has always remained true to itself and produces Burgundy with depth and excellent ageing potential.
Anyone who deals with wines from Burgundy usually encounters family businesses that only cultivate a few hectares of vineyards. Not so with Lous Jadot. Founded in 1859 by Louis Henry Denis Jadot, the house owns well over 100 hectares in all parts of Burgundy and Beaujolais. This may seem unusual to some and may even meet with reservations. But anyone who knows the work and wines of Louis Jadot knows that the house is beyond reproach. The success of the house was initially based on the talent of its founder, who came from Belgium as a merchant and married a winegrower's daughter. He had to overcome many reservations, which he managed to do mainly thanks to his sales talent. His success enabled him to rapidly increase his holdings, some of which were in excellent locations. This continued for the next 100 years. Over time, more than 55 hectares of Premier Cru and Grand Cru sites were acquired, more than any other house. The potential of Beaujolais was also recognised early on and the company began to look there too.
What makes the house so unique is the quality standard that runs through the entire range of over 100 wines. The recipe for success is reliability, which is based on the fact that all wines are always vinified in the same way, allowing the location and vintage to speak for themselves. All wines are matured in barrels from the company's own barrel cellar. A third of these are renewed every year. The grapes are almost completely destemmed and undergo a long classic maceration of around four weeks. This means that the best wines can easily be stored for 50 years.
