The Geil Winery is located in Bechtheim, in southern Rheinhessen, amidst the gently rolling green hills of the Wonnegau rising from the Rhine plain.
in 1871, Georg Geil bought the ancestral home near the former village border. His son Johann Geil not only rendered outstanding services to wine, but also founded the local Raiffeisenbank and held the office of mayor. All this earned him the honorary title of "Oekonomierat".
Today Johannes Geil-Bierschenk runs the winery. He is committed to the winegrowing tradition in the region. Consequently, the focus is clearly on the grape varieties Riesling, Burgundy and Silvaner. Other varieties include Scheurebe, Muskateller, Chardonnay, Gewürztraminer as well as late and early Burgundy.
The vineyards are spread over three sites: The Geyersberg is characterised by its medium-heavy loess loam soil and calcareous subsoil rock. The south-facing, wind-protected terraces produce wines with particular power, fruit and richness.
The Rosengarten with its higher clay content, embedded in a sandy loess loam, gives the wines a complex yet lean style.
Hasensprung, with its heavy clay soils and sandy intercalations, lends the Riesling in particular a filigree, finely fruity, cool character.
