Achs family
Since 1664, everything in the Achs family has revolved around viticulture. Since 1990, Paul Achs Junior has been running the winery on the northern shores of Lake Neusiedl, expanding it from 12 to 25 hectares of cultivated land.
The vineyards are located around Gols and are spread over 40 parcels of land whose very different potential is consistently exploited. The main protagonist is clearly the Blaufränkisch, of which there are five single-vineyard wines. the portfolio includes 14 red wines, each of which is matured in large oak barrels or in barriques, and six white wines.
The Pannonian-continental climate in northern Burgenland is characterised by plenty of sunshine during the ripening period and sufficient rainfall in winter. The climatic protagonist here is Lake Neusiedl. The shallow steppe lake heats up to 26 degrees in summer and warms the surrounding vineyards well into autumn - this allows for particularly long ripening.
The winery has been certified biodynamic since 2006, but long before that they abandoned herbicides and relied on circular farming practices. Waiting for the perfect harvest time, elaborate manual work and strong selection are a matter of course here and contribute to the creation of wines with strong character and particularly long life.
