The Clüver family
For over 120 years, the Clüver family has not only been involved in winegrowing, but through their hard work and quality standards, they have led South Africa's Elgin Valley into the top league of winegrowing regions.
Today, four of the five Clüver siblings are active in the company, taking over from their parents Paul and Songvei. The aim is still to produce outstanding Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs. Sauvignon Blanc and Riesling are also produced.
As a cold-climate terroir with strong temperature fluctuations throughout the day, the Elgin Valley, 15 kilometres from the Atlantic, allows for a longer ripening period. The result: slow sugar development while retaining the higher acidity - for overall balanced wines with complex flavours.
The winery is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site "Kogelberg Biosphere". "We strive to be a critical thinking company. Using the latest technology available to best ensure long term sustainability for the future generations." The family is in favour of sustainable agriculture, promotes biodiversity and is also committed to social projects.
