in 1881 - an eternity before the concept of terroir became popular - Pio Cesare founded his winery in Alba with the aim of producing the very best quality from the hills near Barolo and Barbaresco. His restless entrepreneurial spirit is also reflected in the 55 stamps on his identity card: Pio travelled all over Europe presenting the wines of the region.
His son joined him at the turn of the century. By the middle of the 20th century, the company was already one of the most renowned in Italy and was also recognised internationally.
The fifth generation is now on board. In 2021, the then 24-year-old Frederica Boffa took over at short notice. Still travelling a lot.
But Pio Cesare wines are now enjoyed in many parts of the world as the epitome of outstanding Piedmontese winemaking.
