Winery Salomon Undhof

Salomon Undhof in Stein an der Donau is one of the oldest private wineries in Austria and is synonymous with crystal-clear dry Rieslings and Grüner Veltliners. The approximately 25 hectares of vineyards are located in the easternmost part of the Wachau World Heritage Site in the Kremstal wine-growing region.

The winery is now run by the ninth generation of the family, the twins Fanny Marie and Bert Salomon. Their parents Gertrud and Bertold Salomon now have more time to concentrate on their winery in Finniss River, Australia, which they founded in the 1990s.

Bertold's father Fritz is regarded as the first estate owner in Austria to bottle his wine exclusively at the winery. He was also a pioneer in the production of natural wines. Salomon Undhof wines were already being exported to the USA in the late 1930s.

"Only in healthy soil can healthy vines grow that fully reflect the terroir." In the vineyard, active greening, no herbicides and hand harvesting are therefore standard practice.

The winery is one of the founding members of the Association of Traditional Wine Estates Austria, which advocates the maintenance of particularly strict criteria in production.
