Schäfer-Fröhlich Winery

"We are a family business where cohesion counts."

The Schäfer-Fröhlich family winery in Bockenau on the Nahe has existed for around 200 years. Today it is run by Tim Fröhlich and his wife Nicole. But the parents Karin and Hans-Dieter Fröhlich already brought the winery forward with the acquisition of outstanding vineyards and the production of distinctive Rieslings. From 1995 onwards, the winery received numerous awards, including international ones. Since 2001, the winery has been a member of the VDP Nahe.

The 21 hectares of vineyards, dominated by steep slopes, volcanic rock and slate, are divided between the Felseneck, Stromberg, Felsenberg and Kupfergrube sites, as well as Frühlingsplätzchen and Halenberg. 85% of the area is planted with Riesling, while Burgundy varieties thrive on the remaining 15%.

Tim's work is characterised by the pursuit of perfection. The goal is always to produce wines that are as authentic as possible and characterised by their terroir. It is particularly important for him to reflect on his own work in a collegial exchange: "Only when we know our own strengths and weaknesses can we live up to the goal we have set ourselves, vintage after vintage: Precision - from Gutswein to Grosses Gewächs, in Burgundy and Riesling, in the vineyard as well as in the cellar."
