Shafer Vineyards
"It's been the privilege to have joined my dad here as winemaker."

You don't have to have a long winemaking history to make history. One Shafer wine, for example, is called One-Point-Five. Even though it celebrates 35 years of collaboration between father and son, it also shows that there are just 1.5 generations at work here.
in 1972, John Shafer, who had previously worked as a publisher, acquired a small vineyard in Napa Valley and gradually expanded it. As one of the first in the region, Shafer deliberately chose the slopes and Cabernet Sauvignon as the grape variety.
What was considered unusual at the time has paid off to this day - Shafer Vineyards are among the world's greats. Robert Parker consistently rates the wines as "excellent" or "outstanding".
The focus is on first-class Cabernet, with the first vintage, 1978, already considered outstanding. In addition, Merlot, Malbec, Petit Shiraz, Shiraz and Chardonnay are cultivated and vinified.
in 1983, John's son joined the winery after completing his oenology studies and still runs it today as a director. Among other things, it is thanks to him that the winery has consistently oriented itself towards sustainability in cultivation as well as in the areas of "energy" and "water".
