Georgia's history is inextricably linked to viticulture. It has existed there for an estimated 8,000 years with over 500 of its own grape varieties. The Teliani Valley winery, founded in 1997, draws on this heritage.
It was founded by a few young wine lovers and winegrowers who saw an opportunity to turn the run-down state-owned wineries into something new and combine modern viticulture with ancient techniques and grape varieties. Over the years, a converted car repair shop and a few hectares in Telavi in the Kakheti region have become one of Georgia's largest wine producers with around 700 hectares of vineyards.

The special location of the vineyards in all parts of the country, the soil and the climate contribute to the creation of an impressive selection of fresh, lively wines with plenty of character. The range is divided into six different brands and teams. We have opted for the classic, traditional wines produced in Qvevri from the historic grape varieties. Teliani uses no fewer than 25 different ones. The wines are essentially made as they were thousands of years ago - only with the knowledge of today. After harvesting, the grapes are fermented entirely in quevri, man-sized amphorae buried in the ground. The wine spends the winter there and in the spring all the raisins, stems, stalks and grape skins are removed. The pure wine is then matured further in the Quevri or in wood. The classic grape varieties used include Saperavi, Khikhvi, Kisi, Rkatsiteli and Mtsvane.
