Riesling grape variety
Riesling is one of the best-known white grape varieties and is cultivated all over the world - first and foremost in Germany, of course. It is more flexible and versatile than almost any other grape. The range of possibilities for vinifying Riesling extends from bone-dry to clearly residual or even noble sweet, from fruity, fresh lightness to an oily, dense elixir. It can also be a good basis for sparkling wine production. Riesling always displays an unmistakably fine interplay of fruit and acidity, ideally complemented by the more or less pronounced mineral notes that its terroir has given it. Typical Riesling fruit is yellow stone fruit, namely apricot and peach - but the spectrum ranges from citric notes to apple and pear to the legendary petrol or slate tones. Riesling wines cut a fine figure when young, but high-quality examples can be savoured over several decades. Its range of applications in food pairing is similarly broad.
