Penfolds Grange Shiraz / Cabernet Sauvignon 2010
The FALSTAFF awarded a whopping 100 points to the 2010 "Grange" and 99 points each from JAMES HALLIDAY and ROBERT PARKER.For us, too, this is one of the really great "Grange" wines of the last few decades. The "Grange" 2010 is a cuvée of 4% Cabernet Sauvignon and 96% Shiraz from the Barossa Valley, Clare Valley, Adelaide Hills, McLaren Vale and Magill Estate. It was matured for 17 months in 100% new American oak hogsheads and is earthy and fleshy with plenty of fresh, juicy black fruit, aniseed, olive tapenade, cassis, some pyrazine and eucalyptus. On the palate, the "Penfolds" is juicy, dense, complex, lively and simply delicious - even though it is still very young. But the structure, the vibrant minerality and the polished tannins are now divine and timeless.
