in 1881 - a long time before the term terroir became popular - Pio Cesare founded his winery in Alba with the aim of producing the best quality wines from the hills around Barolo and Barbaresco. His restless entrepreneurial spirit also manifests itself in the 55 stamps on his passport: Pio's travels took him all over Europe, showcasing the flavours of the region.
